Jay Jordane, 54, of Celina was one of more than 13,000 runners and walkers supporting breast cancer research and awareness Saturday at the Susan G. Komen North Texas Race for the Cure in Plano.

The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest series of 5K runs and fitness walks in the world, according to a press release.

The co-ed 5K and the 1-mile walk, ablaze with pink which represented breast cancer survivors, took place at the EDS global headquarters.

“It’s a great cause and I certainly believe in it,” Jordane said. “I want to do everything I can to eradicate this disease.”

The race raises both money and awareness.

“Giving money is important, but getting together to talk about it is very important as well,” the EDS employee said. “We understand this disease affects women and men.” Besides the fund-raising, he said the Race for the Cure offers other benefits to people with breast cancer.

“The event shows people there is hope,” Jordane said. “Their goal is to eradicate it, and just look around at all the survivors all is not lost.”

Runners came from all over the United States as well as foreign countries to participate in the event.

“If you believe in something strongly enough you can make a change,” Jordane said. “You can do that through the power of people.”

Money raised at the race will fund breast cancer education, screening and treatment for women and men in Collin, Denton, and Grayson counties.
